5 Reasons Mondays Aren't The Worst

Mondays get a bad rap, and I understand, but I disagree. I work from home, but I also felt this while teaching. There’s something dreamy about the week ahead. A fresh start. Who knows what opportunities the week will bring?

You’re coming off the weekend, and Mondays can look awful. I switched my calendar to have  my week start on a Monday instead of a Sunday, which helps me visualize the work week ahead. Having the weekends not split up also allows me to enjoy the time off. Nothing is breaking apart the flow.

Five reasons Mondays are fantastic:

1. Mondays are a new beginning.

The potential for what is to come is exciting—a clean slate from where you’ve been. The calendar setup I work with has given me a nice visual to begin my week. Having the week start on a Monday triggers my brain into work mode. It also offers Sunday’s time to shine without Monday knocking on the door.  It’s a fresh starting point I can physically look at. I’m using a notion planner with a cute aesthetic, too. I look forward to adding colors and checklists.

2. Getting Ahead

A new beginning means getting ahead of the looming tasks. If Mondays are productive, my Fridays can be much more relaxed. You feel accomplished when you cross off your list of to-dos. I admit this is often wishful thinking as new, unknown tasks inevitably join the list. But there is hope that you’re setting yourself up for success.

3. It’s easy to make others happy.

People usually hate Mondays, which is why it’s easy to make someone’s day. Monday mornings can be especially tough, so if you walk in with a smile, you’re more likely to pass it along to others. It’s a simple way to raise the spirits of others.

4. Change of perspective

Once I told myself and others that I loved a Monday, it irked people. And being the classic Aries, Enneagram 8 that I am, I liked that response. I enjoyed loving something most people hated. I stood out. A simple switch in perspective made me love the start of a new week, and it’s altered my life. It’s made me more optimistic, and while that wasn’t the initial intention, it’s become the result. The tough love of a Monday feels good.

5. Great day to make a mistake.

“Mistakes are proof that you’re trying.” That’s one of my favorite quotes. Mistakes will happen, especially when you’re putting yourself out there and trying something new. Mondays allow you to try, fail, and figure it out by the week's end. There's time for trial and error built into your schedule.

Mondays can remind you that the weekend is over, and it can bring excitement for the weekend coming up. Documenting your schedule, routine, and tasks brings a bright new feeling. Making the most of a Monday truly sets you up, and it can genuinely change your life and those around you.
